Twenty Faces is the title of this two-series collection, an idea I first explored in 2023. The concept resonated so deeply with me that I felt compelled to revisit it this year. This series offers me the freedom to dream and play with colours, creating vibrant and imaginative compositions.
The paintings feature a dynamic assemblage of simplified and abstract faces, drawn intuitively and inspired by photographs and African masks. Each face emerges from my imagination, a spontaneous expression of form and emotion. The creative process is free-flowing, allowing me to focus on the interplay of colours and the intuitive arrangement of shapes.
This mixed-media series is created using magazines, newspapers, and acrylic on 48 by 60-inch canvases. One of the most rewarding aspects of creating these works is experimenting with vibrant colours and contrasts. Each rectangular box of faces is painted in bold, contrasting hues, ensuring that every element stands out while contributing to the overall harmony of the piece.

The concept of Twenty Faces draws inspiration from Andy Warhol’s Shot of Marilyns, particularly his use of varied coloured backgrounds to depict Marilyn Monroe. This approach inspired me to create abstract heads on diverse, colourful backgrounds. Additionally, Wassily Kandinsky’s Color Study: Squares with Concentric Rings influenced the experimental use of colours within boxed compositions. These inspirations helped shape a series that is both vibrant and deeply personal.
At its core, Twenty Faces is a celebration of mood and emotion through colour. Each painting reflects my colourful moods, expressed in hues that evoke hope, positivity, and illumination. I want viewers to feel the energy and joy radiating from these works. Vibrant colours have the power to transform environments, uplift spirits, and inspire a sense of optimism. Through this series, I hope to share that transformative experience with my audience.
