MEET EGHOSA

The Artist

Born in 1982, Eghosa Raymond Akenbor is a painter, experimental artist and art educator based in Benin City, Nigeria. He is a graduate from Auchi Polytechnic Auchi, Edo state, Nigeria with a diploma in Painting and general art, and holds a post-graduate degree in education from the National teacher’s institute, Kaduna, Nigeria.

Living and schooling in the historically acclaimed state, he cultivated a desire for discovery and creation. He fell in love with the impressionist art style, African culture and its works. His early works incorporated the African features in terms of size and shape and fused fashion motifs. Working as a fashion designer, he moved to the art of painting clothing’s and eventually ventured into mixed media art and collage making after being inspired by Victor Ekpo in 2015. After years of exploring various art techniques and mediums, he realized in 2021, his buyers enjoyed his figures with pointillism techniques and African symbols on plain background.

Today, Eghosa’s paintings depict the tender beauty of the African culture in acrylic, carefully gathered from his imagination, immediate environment and inspired works- poetry, ancient sculptures, music and fashion magazines-rooted deeply in cultural aesthetics. He aims to tell stories and strike meaningful conversations from his figures to celebrate and uplift the African roots and draw attention to his work
