Benin Models 3 marks the final piece in my series, a work deeply inspired by the bronze head of Queen Idia, a revered figure in African history. Queen Idia, mother of Oba Esigie, the ruler of Benin from 1504 to 1550, is celebrated as a warrior and a key figure in her son’s rise and reign. Her story reflects a legacy of courage, wisdom, and strength—qualities that resonate deeply in this painting.
This artwork is a tribute to African women, capturing their essence with elegance and reverence. It celebrates their beauty, intelligence, strength, and wisdom—traits epitomized by Queen Idia. Through this piece, I aim to honour not just her legacy but the countless African women whose contributions often remain untold yet are central to history and society.

Created with acrylic on a 48 by 60-inch canvas, Benin Models 3 radiates energy and depth. The bold and intricate details pay homage to the regal legacy of Queen Idia while also serving as a broader celebration of African heritage. The interplay of colour and form reflects the strength and grace of African women, inviting viewers to connect with the rich history and culture it represents.
This final piece of the series is more than a painting; it is a narrative—an artistic expression that bridges history and contemporary storytelling. Benin Models 3 stands as a celebration of identity, resilience, and the enduring legacy of African women, inspiring admiration and reflection in equal measure.
