Thoughts of Beauty: A Contemporary African Art Series Inspired by Hope, Colour, and Positive Living

thoughts of beauty

Every painting begins long before the first brushstroke touches the canvas. It begins with a thought. For me, these works are the visual expression of my everyday thoughts of beauty—moments of optimism, colour, and hope that I choose to preserve through painting.

I believe it doesn’t cost anything to see beauty in the world or to fill your mind with positive thoughts. In a time when we are constantly surrounded by difficult news and life’s many challenges, choosing to focus on beauty becomes a quiet but powerful act. Those simple thoughts have the ability to transform how we feel, how we live, and how we connect with the spaces around us.

As a contemporary African artist, my desire is to create paintings that do more than decorate a wall. I want them to become part of everyday life—works that inspire calm, joy, conversation, and reflection. My hope is that every collector who lives with one of these paintings experiences a daily reminder that beauty still exists, even during uncertain times.

This collection is titled Thoughts of Beauty. It is one of my most personal series, combining my signature assemblage of abstract heads with the portrait of an African woman adorned with an elaborate hairstyle. The layered abstract forms represent the countless thoughts, memories, emotions, and experiences that shape our lives, while the central figure symbolizes dignity, strength, elegance, and the enduring beauty of African identity.

Each painting is created with acrylic paint and marker on canvas and measures 52 × 52 inches. The vibrant colours, expressive patterns, and intuitive mark-making reflect my fascination with rhythm, movement, and the visual language of African art. Rather than pursuing realism, I embrace abstraction as a way to communicate emotion and imagination, inviting every viewer to discover their own meaning within the composition.

Ultimately, Thoughts of Beauty is an invitation. It invites you to slow down, embrace optimism, and make room for beauty in your daily life. Art has the power to shape the atmosphere of a home, inspire meaningful conversations, and lift the human spirit.

My hope is that these paintings become more than objects to admire. I hope they become companions—living reminders that beauty, hope, and kindness are always worth choosing. After all, the most beautiful thoughts in life don’t cost a thing.
