In my latest creation, “Masquerade 3,” I embarked on a journey to capture the hidden essence of an abstract visage, one that exudes raw, untamed colours and emotions. Within this canvas, I sought to unveil a countenance that teetered on the edge of humanity and something otherworldly—a being adorned in a contemporary mask, radiating aesthetic allure.
The subjects of my Masquerade series, including this piece, forsake conventional human facial features, save for the enigmatic, abstract eyes that gaze from within. These eyes serve as windows to the soul of this enigmatic being, inviting viewers to delve into the depths of their own imagination and interpretation.
My inspiration for “Masquerade 3” draws from the rich tapestry of African masks and the mystique of Masquerades, both encountered in the physical realm and explored online. These art forms have left an indelible mark on my creative psyche, infusing my work with their profound cultural and artistic significance.
To bring this vision to life, I employed a diverse range of media, including acrylic, fabric, and carton on canvas. This mixed-media approach allowed me to infuse depth and texture into the piece, enabling the colours to interact and dance upon the surface. The canvas measures a modest 12 by 14 inches, serving as a window into a world where the abstract and the aesthetic converge.
