“The Liberating Power of Art: Exploring Untitled Expression 2”

May 14, 2023

As an artist, I am driven by the liberating power of art to express my thoughts, feelings, and imaginations. I find joy in the process of creating, allowing my brush strokes to flow naturally without the constraints of a preconceived title. As renowned art critic Jerry Saltz has stated, “One real reason for making art is to enjoy the moment.” This sentiment is embodied in my experimental work of art, Untitled Expression 2, a striking acrylic on canvas piece measuring 60 by 48 inches.

In this painting, a female portrait with yellow glasses is set against a background of grey imagery, symbols, and patterns. The composition is rich with dots, symbols, and motifs that come together to form an intricate tapestry of colours. The background is a kaleidoscope of abstract poetry, woven in hues and shades, with an imaginative story to tell.

The beauty of Untitled Expression 2 lies in its interpretation. The absence of a predetermined title frees the viewer to connect with the painting on a personal level, giving them the power to see and feel what speaks to them. For me, the lady in the portrait is a bold and confident woman, making a statement with her presence. Her vivid colours and captivating aura make her impossible to ignore.

Overall, the purpose of this painting is not to dictate a meaning, but rather to evoke an emotional response from those who engage with it. Untitled Expression 2 is a celebration of the freedom and joy of creation, both for the artist and the viewer.
