Voices of Colour: When the Canvas Begins to Speak

Voices of Colour

I love colours. Long before pigment ever touches the canvas, they already exist vividly in my mind. I think about them, dream about them, and spend time carefully composing them internally, as if arranging a silent orchestra waiting to be heard. My hunger for colour is really a hunger for beauty—beauty that can transform spaces, stir emotions, and quietly influence the way we live and feel. As a painter, I do not simply draw with lines; I draw with colours. They are my language, my voice, and the most honest way I know how to connect with and interpret the world around me.

When I create in this intuitive way, I experience an immense sense of freedom. This, to me, is the true beauty of art: the power of self-expression that feels effortless, natural, and deeply personal. It is as unique and intimate as the way a person walks, talks, smiles, or even how their handwriting flows across a page. In those moments before the canvas, I am fully present, immersed in the act of making. The process becomes intimate—almost like making love to the canvas—alive with emotion, sensitivity, and movement. During this stage, titles do not matter. What matters is the feeling carried within the work, the energy exchanged between my inner world and the surface before me.

These words perfectly describe how I felt while creating this four-series mixed media collection. The works were created using acrylic and marker on canvas, each measuring 48 by 36 inches. Throughout the process, I allowed instinct to lead, letting shapes, colours, and lines emerge spontaneously. There was no pressure to define meaning too early; instead, I listened to what the paintings were becoming, allowing them the space to speak back to me.

It was only after completing the series and spending time living with each piece that a title revealed itself—Voices of Colour. The collection is composed of abstract, intuitive head forms drawn with spontaneous colour patterns and flowing lines. Each head represents a voice—not spoken words, but emotional frequencies expressed through colour, texture, and movement. To me, every shape carries its own rhythm, its own presence, its own story.

Voices of Colour is a celebration of freedom, intuition, and emotional honesty. It is about trusting colour as a guide, allowing the process to unfold naturally, and honouring the quiet dialogue between the artist and the canvas. Through this body of work, I invite viewers to listen—to feel the colours, hear their silent voices, and perhaps discover echoes of their own inner expressions reflected back at them.
