The vibrant culture of Nigeria’s urban life has inspired many forms of art, including fashion, music, and even food. The painting titled “Magnificent 6” has captured this essence through a collage/mixed media painting that showcases the diversity and urbanization of Nigerian society.
The painting features a female gesture, created from a fusion of different fabrics, magazines, calendars, cardboard papers, and acrylic on canvas. It is not focused on the female figure, but rather the stories of the materials assembled within it. The piece is a reflection of my society, where patterns, designs, images, and shapes are seen everywhere.
Measuring 60 by 48 inches, “Magnificent 6” is a true representation of African urbanism. I use colours that are seen throughout the urban landscape of Nigeria, from the vibrant colours of public buses to the rich hues of traditional fabrics. The painting captures the rhythm and soul of Nigeria’s music scene, from the local/traditional music to the legendary Afro beat sound that is so popular.
Overall, “Magnificent 6” is a stunning work of art that tells the story of a diversified and urbanized society. It showcases the beauty and vibrancy of Nigerian culture and reflects my passion for capturing the essence of my society through my art.
